This study was conducted for San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in several stages:
The first stage involved both a survey of Bay Area residents who flew out of SFO in 2019 or 2020. The survey focused on how likely they were to return to flying in 2020 or 2021, and what primary concerns they may have which might prevent them from flying. Surveys were conducted by phone and online. This stage also included a qualitative business traveler survey. This survey focused on many of the same issues as the residential survey; however, it also explored existing travel policies at larger Bay Area employers, as well as business related travel needs in the next few years. Surveys were conducted by phone and online.
Ongoing segments continued throughout 2020 and 2021, tracking passenger satisfaction and safety concerns. Three additional waves have been completed during 2020-2021. Each wave has tracked various COVID-related concerns, while also focusing on a few timely questions around COVID-related protocols and changes.
